Scientific American reports that snow fall to date has been limited in the states that require snow melt as the main water supply. In California, the article reports that the snowpack's water content was found to be 19% of the usual January 3rd average and only 7% of the average April 1st average. The snowpack is usually at its peak early in April before melting in the spring. According to the article, mountain snow that melts in the spring and summer accounts for about 1/3 of the water for California's households, farms and industries. Hopefully there will be lots of snow over the coming months. Follow the link to see the maps.
