Bacteria stops dengue in tracks

Australian scientists say they have discovered a cheap and effective method of preventing the transmission of dengue fever. They infected mosquitoes that spread the disease with bacteria that block transmission of the dengue virus. When the resistant insects were released, they successfully interbred with wild mosquitoes and halted their ability to transmit dengue. Details of the work are published in the journal Nature.

Malaria cases in Greece

"All six cases were seen in people who had no history of travel to a country where malaria is common. Five of these cases were in Greek adults and one was in a Roma child. This is the third consecutive year that small numbers of cases have been reported in Greece as a result of local transmission".
