The Guardian reports that Boris Johnson, Mayor of London has presented plans to encourage Londoners to turn spaces into vegetable plots. This is part of a scheme to grow food on 2012 pieces of land across the capital by 2012. The project is called Capital Growth and the web site is well worth checking out.
When I was in California last year I was very interested in the Victory Gardens project in San Fransisco. This is a very similar project and again the website provides lots of information. I was also fascinated to learn about vegetable growing projects that were designed to help vulnerable young people in the Los Angeles area.
