Biologia

I think food shortages will change people's attitude towards genetically modified foods. What will happen is that people will crave for more information about genetically modified foods. You know we have a situation where people have been fed with erroneous information about these foods. Anti-biotechnology activists have ganged up to inundate the world with propagandist literature about GM foods. And people have bought into this propaganda. Now it the time for people to re-examine their stance on GM foods. They need to read peer-reviewed literature on GM food. They need to read a report of the World Health Organization (WHO) that was released five years ago and that declared that GM foods pose no threat to human health and the environment.

And I have always argued that GM foods are not the only solution to the current or future food crisis. We need a multi-faceted strategy to deal with food shortages. Let's not be dismissive of organic foods, for instance. Let's not try to demonize genetically modified foods, on the other hand. Biotech companies such as Monsanto, Dupont, Bayer and others have an important role to play in enhancing food sustainability. Let's give them a chance to do it. I have written an excellent article on how genetically modified foods and their organic counterparts can help feed the world.
