Hand, foot and mouth disease in China

It is very concerning to read about the spread of the hand, foot and mouth disease virus in China. Twenty-six children have died to date and there are fears of the virus spreading to Beijing. The Guardian reports that hand, foot and mouth does not normally kill children. However in its severest form it can lead to complications including heart and respiratory problems and meningitis. It is most easily spread through contact with infected blisters or faeces.
