Drought causing Australian farmers to leave the land
The BBC reports that more than 10,000 Australian farming families (10% of the total) have had to leave their land as a result of the country's ongoing drought in the last five years. In fact the number of farmers has dropped by a third in twenty years. Normally Australia would hope to produce around 25 million tonnes of wheat. In 2006 the amount produced was less than 10 million tonnes.
