E-thoughts - in print
Yesterday, the first ten copies of my book arrived! There is something wonderful about holding a book that you have written in your hand for the first time - a real sense of completion with all the hours of work enclosed between the glossy covers.
I was filled with excitement and asked my children what they thought of the book and the response was very monosyllabic. When I carried the quest forward one of my children replied "Well, isn't that what all mothers do?". I nearly replied "Actually, no!" but I thought for a few moments and then came the realisation. I realised that my writing on my laptop at the kitchen table whilst they are doing their homework alongside or their myriad other activities is part of me and my role just as much as cooking, doing the laundry, washing the dishes or tidying up after them. They just see it as a daily task , one that doesn't really warrant debate or discussion, it's just there in the background, but then that doesn't lower the value of that task does it!
