Famous and infamous redheads

My son has red hair and he gets a lot of stick for it from children who think it is funny to mock red (ginger) hair. I think this type of name calling and "bullying" in the work place and society is a legacy from our British history and the successive invaders "approach" to the ancient Celts and Britons who were already here.

Taking a positive step, I have researched and found ten "colourful" famous and infamous redheads. We as a family have enjoyed discussing their exploits and adventures and realised that being "ginger" you are in a very elite group.

  1. Henry VIII - Tudor king and strong minded monarch
  2. Elizabeth I - Tudor queen and daughter on Henry VIII - strong willed too
  3. Vincent van Gogh - painter
  4. General George Custer - ill fated US Soldier
  5. Erik the Red - adventurer and explorer who discovered Greenland
  6. Lief Erickson - explorer and son of Erik the Red
  7. Winston Churchill -  British leader
  8. Napoleon Bonaparte - French leader
  9. George Washington - US leader
  10. and last but not least - Galileo -scientist
